City of Lebanon Bridges Over Norfolk Southern: An Historical Retrospective of the People and Businesses by Donald L. Rhoads Jr. and Gladys Bucher Sowers.
“The Lebanon County Historical Society has published a book in conjunction with PennDOT detailing the history of streets and the new overpass bridges under construction in the city of Lebanon. The 79-page book… tells the history of many businesses along and near the railroad tracks and the people who lived in the nearby houses. The book includes photos, maps and illustrations of the homes and the area. PennDOT’s Graphic Service Center in Harrisburg designed and printed the book. Lebanon officials discussed construction of the $50-million railroad overpass for decades before the project entered the planning stage in 1997. Work on the North Ninth Street bridge is expected to be completed in late October, while the North 10th Street bridge should be completed by the end of 2013.”
The book is this year’s annual publication, provided to the members of the Lebanon County Historical Society. Because the book was sponsored by PennDOT, it is also offered free to the public. Non-members may pick up a copy at the Society office. A donation to the Society is requested.
